FAQ - Tank Lining

It is always crucial to communicate every parameter of your application to ensure the best possible material selection. A single missing detail can impact longevity. Selection relies on a complete view of: Chemical Composition (pH, concentration, trace impurities), Operating Temperature (including cleaning cycles/spikes), and Mechanical Stress (abrasion, agitators).
  • Natural Rubber: Best for severe abrasion (mining slurry) and Hydrochloric Acid (HCl).
  • Chlorobutyl / Bromobutyl: Best for high temperatures and oxidizing chemicals.
  • Neoprene: Best for oil resistance and outdoor weather exposure. Our engineering team reviews your full process conditions and MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) to recommend the exact rubber grade required.
A professionally applied and maintained rubber lining can last between 10 and 20 years. Service life depends on the aggressiveness of the stored product and thermal cycling. Annual inspections (visual and spark testing) allow us to detect and repair minor wear before it compromises the steel structure.
We offer both solutions.
  • Shop Lining: Ideal for transportable vessels. We vulcanize the rubber in our autoclave for maximum bond strength. Our factory is located on the North Shore of Montreal.
  • Field Lining: For large, fixed storage tanks. Our mobile crews travel throughout Quebec (Sorel, Val-d'Or, Sept-Îles) and Ontario to perform abrasive blasting, application, and steam curing directly at your facility.
Yes. While based near Montreal, we have successfully executed complex lining projects across Canada, the USA, and Latin America. Whether for mining thickeners in the North Shore, acid tanks in Abitibi, or industrial basins in Ontario, our teams are fully equipped for remote mobilization.
For a shop project, the standard turnaround is 2 to 4 weeks (including blasting and curing). For on-site interventions during planned shutdowns, we schedule our crews months in advance to guarantee 24/7 availability and meet your tight maintenance deadlines.
Absolutely. Safety is our top priority. All our technicians hold valid certifications for Confined Space Entry and Working at Heights. We provide all necessary safety equipment, including explosion-proof mechanical ventilation, 4-gas detectors, harnesses, and qualified rescue supervisors for every intervention.
We follow a rigorous Quality Control protocol. After application, we perform 100% surface verification using Spark Testing (Holiday Testing) to detect even the microscopic pinholes. We also verify hardness (Shore A) and adhesion strength to ensure the vulcanization process is complete.
Yes. If the steel substrate is not compromised, we can perform localized repairs (patching). We cut out the damaged area, prepare the surface, and apply a fresh rubber patch using chemical or steam curing. This is a cost-effective and fast solution to extend equipment life during a maintenance shutdown.
The decisive advantage is volume and impact absorption. While standard rubber linings range from 1/8" to 1/2" (3mm to 12mm), we have the capability to build significantly greater thicknesses—up to 4 inches (100mm)—by fusing multiple layers together. Compared to paint or epoxy which are measured in mere microns, this massive rubber thickness acts as a superior sacrificial barrier against extreme wear, absorbs heavy kinetic energy, and provides crack-bridging capabilities that rigid coatings simply cannot match.
We line both. For concrete containment basins or sumps, we use specific primers designed to penetrate the cement porosity. Rubber is particularly effective on concrete because it absorbs structural movement and vibration without debonding, ensuring a watertight seal for wastewater or chemical containment.
Yes, we install authentic Linatex® (red rubber) using the exclusive Cold Bonding method. Unlike hot-vulcanized rubbers, Linatex is a "live" rubber that retains its unique molecular structure by avoiding the high heat of an autoclave. We use specific cold-cure adhesives and hardeners to ensure a perfect chemical bond. This process allows for flexible installation both in our shop and directly on-site at your mine or plant.
