On-Site Work

At Elastomont, we are specialists in on-site rubber lining (industrial rubber coating). For over 35 years, we have performed installation, vulcanization, inspection and repair of tanks, vats, basins and pipes in the most demanding environments: mines, aluminum smelters, steel mills, petrochemistry, industrial chemistry and water treatment.

Our teams have complete expertise for all types of on-site coatings: natural rubber, chlorobutyl, bromobutyl, Linatex, as well as products from our partners Rubber Source, Polycorp, Blair Rubber and American Biltrite.

We offer a custom service adapted to your needs or a turnkey service, from surface preparation to final vulcanization.

Unmatched Expertise on Tanks of All Sizes

Elastomont is recognized as a North American leader for coating tanks of all sizes, including very large bolted-section vats.

We have developed a unique on-site joint technology that ensures:

  • Identical chemical resistance to the rubber of the walls
  • Mechanical and wear resistance equivalent to the original coating
  • Perfect fusion with the existing coating

This expertise now allows us to work on tanks reaching over 50 feet in diameter and 50 feet in height, an exceptional dimension in the industry.

Typical Applications of On-Site Rubber Lining

Our rubber coating solutions are deployed directly on your installations to solve critical industrial challenges. Here are the typical applications of our on-site expertise:

  • Interior coating of tanks and vats (acids, water, chemicals)
  • Protection of industrial basins and pipes
  • Specialized inspections, coating renovations, and repairs on existing tanks and parts
  • Coating of bolted-section vats with exclusive joints
  • On-site vulcanization
  • Rubber stripping and sandblast surface preparation
  • Extending equipment service life through protection against abrasion and corrosion

Specialized Equipment and On-Site Services

Our teams have all the tools to guarantee safe and high-performance work:

  • Explosion-proof ventilation and lighting
  • Portable multi-gas detectors
  • Complete rescue systems (Xtirpa XL, Sked, rescue hoists)
  • Certified articulated Genie EE lift
  • Personal protective equipment: boots, gloves, harnesses, respirators, 4-gas detectors

A large screen in the background displays the title 'FORMATION ESPACE CLOS - PROCÉDURES DE SÉCURITÉ' (Confined Space Training - Safety Procedures). The training potentially covers risks associated with work involving Elastomontn and rubber lining.

Health and Safety Compliance (CNESST)

At Elastomont, workplace health and safety are at the heart of all our interventions. Our procedures fully comply with CNESST requirements and even exceed them through methods validated by engineering firms.

  • ASP Construction training and specialized certifications
  • Complete confined space program with permits, assigned supervisor and adapted rescue plans

Collaboration and Recognized Expertise

We work in consultation with our clients and their engineering firms to develop safety and execution plans adapted to each job site.

Concrete example: During a project in Bécancour, our experts integrated our specialized equipment (explosion-proof ventilation, Xtirpa XL, Genie EE lift) to strengthen the initial HSE plan. This project was recognized as safer and validated by the responsible engineering firm.

Geographic Coverage and Case Studies

Our teams travel throughout Quebec, Ontario and New Brunswick. Regardless of the remoteness or complexity of access to your site, we mobilize the equipment and expertise necessary to complete your rubber lining projects safely.

Industrial sectors served:

  • Mining and metallurgy
  • Petrochemistry and refining
  • Water treatment and environment
  • Heavy industry and processing

Proven field experience: From remote mining sites to urban industrial complexes, we adapt our logistics and protocols to each environment. Our ability to work in confined spaces, at heights and in demanding conditions allows us to deliver major projects wherever our clients operate.

Historic Milestone: A 2005 Project

In 2005, Elastomont completed a historic turnkey rubber lining project at a manufacturing facility in the Montérégie region, with the rubber coating of the largest tank ever built at the time and delivered to the customer in a single piece.

This tank measured 32 feet in diameter and over 35 feet in height, and was transported by road to Q.I.T. (Québec Iron and Titanium).

The mandate included:

  • Selection of rubber resistant to heat, spent HCl acid and abrasion for a 1000-ton capacity
  • Interior sandblast preparation
  • Complete coating installation
  • An innovative installation technique that extended the tank's service life by 10 years before any repair
  • On-site vulcanization with a temporary boiler
  • Production of technical and quality documentation

Since this landmark project, Elastomont has developed exclusive on-site joint technology for very large bolted tanks, and we have worked on vats over 50 feet in diameter and 50 feet in height.
