KALCAST — White Cast Iron with High Chromium Content (Ni-Hard)

KALCAST is a hardened white cast iron alloy containing chromium and carbon, designed to resist abrasion wear and moderate impacts. Parts are cast with adjusted compositions to balance abrasion resistance and toughness. They are used in severe environments where hard steels reach their limits.

Key Properties:

  • Typical Chemical Composition: 25–28 % Cr, 2.5–3.5 % C
  • Material Type: White iron (Ni-Hard) with chromium carbides
  • Hardness: 600–750 HB (≈ 62 HRC)
  • Density: 7.6 g/cm³
  • Maximum Operating Temperature: ≈ 350 °C
  • Typical Piece Thickness: 15–70 mm
  • Available Forms: Plates, molded pieces, tubes, elbows
  • Typical Applications: Elbows, hoppers, pumps, mills, endless screws, chutes for mineral discharge, material chutes

KALMETALL — Steel Plate with Hard Overlay

KALMETALL is a mild steel plate covered with a hard overlay rich in chromium carbides. This material offers excellent resistance to severe abrasion and impact in high-temperature environments.

Key properties:

  • Composition: 5% C, 30% Cr, balance Fe
  • Hardness: 650–820 HV
  • Overlay Thickness: 3–18 mm
  • Maximum Temperature: 750 °C
  • Dominant Resistance: Severe abrasion, high impact
  • Typical Applications: Hoppers, cyclones, conveyors, chutes, spray chambers
Technical Sheet - KAKMERALL

KALCRET — High-Performance Concrete

KALCRET is a mineral composite concrete based on hard aggregates (corundum, fused basalt, bauxite). It offers exceptional resistance to erosion and abrasion in high-temperature environments.KALCRET is a cast or troweled mineral/ceramic composite (anti-wear mortar) applied in-situ for continuous lining or re-profiling of large surfaces. It provides excellent abrasion protection with minimal downtime.

Key properties:

  • Density: 2.8–3.1 g/cm³
  • Compressive Strength: 135–190 MPa
  • Flexural Strength: 15–26 MPa
  • Maximum Temperature: 400 °C (standard) to 1,200 °C (special formulation)
  • Typical Applications: Cyclones, silos, hoppers, hot air chambers, suction ducts
Technical Sheet - KALCRET

ABRESIST — Fused Basalt

ABRESIST is a mineral material crystallized from basalt melted at 1,250 °C. Its dense, smooth surface reduces friction and effectively protects against dry wear and chemical corrosion.

Key properties:

  • Density: 2.9 g/cm³
  • Hardness: ≈ 770 HV1
  • Maximum Temperature: 350 °C
  • Dominant Resistance: Dry abrasion, chemical corrosion
  • Typical Applications: Hoppers, cyclones, conveyors, chutes, spray chambers
Technical Sheet - ABRESIST

KALPOXY NS — Anti-Wear Epoxy Resin

KALPOXY NS is a two-component non-sag epoxy resin, loaded with 70% silicon carbide and reinforced with Kevlar fibers. It is used for localized repair and protection against wear.‍

Key properties:

  • Mix Ratio: 5:1 (resin:hardener)
  • Density: 1.9 g/cm³
  • Cure Time: 3 hours at 23 °C
  • Maximum Temperature: 110 °C
  • pH Range: 3.8–10
  • Typical Applications: Duct repair, hoppers, impact zones, filling before coating

Understanding Kalenborn Wear Products | Comparison Guide

Product Material Family Form & Installation Ideal For Limitations Market Comparables
Kalcast High-hardness cast alloy (white iron high-chrome / Ni-Hard) Cast liners/blocks, bolted/pinned Extreme abrasion, low impact: chutes, drops, cyclones, cones Brittle under severe impacts, heavy Abreco® (chrome white iron), other HCWI/Ni-Hard
Kalmetall CCO plate (chromium carbide overlay) on steel Weldable, cuttable/formable; installation by welding/bolting Severe abrasion + on-site maintenance/fabrication (rapid replacements) Lower performance than ceramic in extreme abrasion; heat & impact sensitive Other CCO plates (chromium carbide)
Kalcret Cast/troweled mineral/ceramic composite (mortar) In-situ application, large-surface re-profiling Repair or continuous lining of chutes/transfer boxes Less durable than pure ceramic in extreme abrasion; depends on surface prep Equivalent pourable/trowelable mortars/compounds
Abresist Cast basalt (basalt ceramic) Tiles/segments, glued or anchored Sliding abrasion, low impact: chutes, piping, elbows Brittle under impacts; requires careful substrate/bonding Basalt tiles from other brands; alumina 92–95% (low-impact)
Kalpoxy NS Ceramic-filled epoxy (No-Sag putty) Cold repair by trowel; holds on vertical/underside Local patches, filling, precise re-profiling during short shutdowns Limited damping; max temp depends on formulation Equivalent ceramic epoxy "no-sag" putties

FAQ – Kalenborn Wear Products

To protect your equipment (chutes, drops, cyclones, pipes, etc.) against abrasion, erosion, and sometimes corrosion, reducing downtime and extending service life.
A high-hardness cast alloy (white iron high-chrome/Ni-Hard family) in bolted liners/blocks. Ideal for severe abrasion with minimal impacts.
A bimetallic CCO plate (chromium carbide overlay) that is weldable and cuttable. Perfect when you need quick on-site fabrication/maintenance.
A cast/troweled composite (anti-wear mortar) for re-profiling or continuous lining of large surfaces directly in-situ.
Cast basalt (ceramic) in tiles/segments, glued or anchored. Excellent for sliding abrasion with low impact.
A ceramic-filled epoxy "No-Sag" putty for cold local repairs, even on vertical or underside surfaces.
  • Sliding abrasion, minimal impacts → Kalcast or Abresist
  • Easy welding/maintenance → Kalmetall
  • Large surface restoration → Kalcret
  • Small local repair → Kalpoxy NS
  • High impacts and noise → consider rubber/PU or rubber-ceramic
